Welcome to my Website!
Hi! I'm glad you came to visit! My name is Kim Griffith-Fraley and I am a private music instructor serving the Northern California communities of Brentwood, Antioch, Oakley, Discovery Bay and beyond! I have been teaching in this area for over 17 years now! Before that, I taught for over 10 years in the Southern California area. Many of my students are first chair players in their school bands, have participated in honor bands, and have won awards and scholarships to major universities.
I received my Master of Arts degree in Music/Flute Performance from California State University, Los Angeles. During my time in Los Angeles, CA, I had the opportunity to study with some fantastic teachers! I studied with Jim Walker, Anne Diener Giles (now Zentner) the former principal flutists of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Roland Moritz, and Patricia Garside, Professor of Flute at CSULA. I had a few other teachers during those years, but these are the ones that made me the flutist and teacher I am today! In addition to my Master's, I studied Suzuki Flute Pedagogy with Gretel Shanley, Rebecca Paluzzi, and Toshio Takahashi, and Suzuki Piano Pedagogy at Holy Names College in Oakland, CA with Caroline Frasier. I am currently completing my CA Single-Subject Credential in Music at Brandman University.
In addition to my private teaching, I am also a Music Educator with the Brentwood Union School District, teaching 4th and 5th grade classroom music and Beginning Band at Krey and Ron Nunn Elementary Schools. I am also an active member of the Music Teacher's Association of California, having served as Vice-President, Recording Secretary, and Director of our local Delta board, and also served on the MTAC State Board as the Certificate of Merit Winds Chair for Northern California from 2008-2010. I continue to be very active in this organization working as a Winds Adjudicator for the Certificate of Merit program each Spring, where hundreds of students study for performance and theory tests each year.
Let me help you to be the best that you can be! My private lessons include ear training, tonalization exercises to develop a beautiful tone, technique building, sight-reading, ensemble experiences, recital opportunities, MTAC Certificate of Merit programs (for flute and piano), music theory and music history.
